Painter and musician, Andrea De Luca was born in Bologna on 12 January 1964, the city of his birth in which he shared the dynamism and generational ferment of the 1980s. Alongside the punk movement, he founded the band ‘Radio City’ with his brother Enrico and participated in the first Thessaloniki biennial with the album ‘Sobborghi’.
In those years, in addition to his songwriting and painting activities, he attended the studio of painter and mentor Tonino Gottarelli in Imola.
In 2015 he won the First Prize at the ROMART Art Biennial in Rome, which was followed by further awards such as the Saturarte Prize in Genoa in 2018, where he won the Critics’ Prize, and the Engenart Prize in Florence, where he was a finalist in 2020. He boasts to his credit the participation in solo and group exhibitions in various private Galleries, Foundations and Art Fairs.
Today, alongside his work as an artist, De Luca also works as a trainer at CEFAL Emilia Romagna, a reality that has become an integral part of his research. As he himself declared: ‘I like to remember that it is often those very children, with whom I have a close daily relationship, who inspire some of my works, whether they are musical (my latest album, “De Luca”, tells many of their stories) or pictorial, as in the exhibition of portraits and hugs presented at the Mondadori Store in Milan, curated by Amedeo Demitry and Angelo Crespi’.
