After graduating from the Muratori classical high school in Modena and graduating with honours in modern literature from the Alma Mater in Bologna, he started a career in journalism, collaborating with local radio, newspapers and television stations. He worked for years in the press office of a multi-utility, before moving to Ethiopia in 2007, where he wrote the short novel Scritto sull’acqua, later adapted for the theatre.

He dedicated himself to freelance photojournalism, documenting emergency situations in various countries, and published numerous essays and novels, some translated into English and Spanish. He edits magazines such as Afro and Il Barrito del Mammut, collaborates with the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and sees his work published in major newspapers such as Il Corriere della Sera and L’Espresso. His photographic exhibitions have been widely exhibited in Italy and abroad.

Since 2015, he has been teaching photojournalism at Roma Tre University and in 2021 he signed the lyrics of the musical opera Un cuore in fiamme a zero gradi. His photographs are used by the Pontifical section Migrants and Refugees for themes related to the integral promotion of the person.

She has received numerous awards, including the Premio Hombres (2008), Profilo Donna (2012), the Premio Nazionale Mediterraneo (2014) and the Premio Donne in Ri-Nascita (2017).
